SKINAGANZA!

Starting from Atelier LAV's oil paintings, there is a thread spinnig through the exhibition SKINAGANZA! to the acrylic paintings of Wolfgang Schwarz.

The two close-up paintings are abstracted into adjacent skin tones, the colour code of the exhibition, that then form into fabric paintings and skin barks. The colour code extends over several accessories until it dissolves into the clothing and spackled acrylic paintings.

In line with „Skin Extravaganza“, the exhibition reflects the beauty, complexity, and uniqueness of skin, as well as its inherent artistic and narrative potential. In each artwork and the processes in between, new things as well as specific stories are allowed to take shape.

For the oil paintings, Atelier LAV has painted over her previous work "Goosebumps" (2014). The paintings highlight seven of the complex skin tones from the original motif, which then transform into a completely abstract colour code in the following two fabric painting works (fabric painting without and with zippers). This colour code is then transferred as a pattern onto handmade clutch fanny packs made from a recycled cellulose-latex blend and onto scrunchies created from undyed and unbleached organic cotton (interlock jersey and tulle). In the dyed clothing made from previously untreated organic cotton (interlock jersey and tulle), the colour code and pattern dissolve, becoming a nuanced unity. The close-up photographs of the dressed dyed tulle fabric reflect the original motif, thus completing the cycle of the series.

Wolfgang Schwarz's spackled acrylic paintings on recycled wooden panels are characterised by their connection and juxtaposition of colours and textures. Inspired by the nuances of skin tones and the translucent hues of wood, a harmonious connection between humans and nature emerges, contrasted by the accentuated use of vibrant colours. The digitally constructed work "Skin Bark" connects, as the title suggests, the abstracted skin tones with tree bark, creating another arc of tension between the human and plant coverings.
